Ask a Christian Podcast – The 51st State, the Gospel of Thomas, and a Chick Fight
Brethren, we come together once more in the spirit of truth, reason, and, of course, lively discussion. And so, I, Nate, your humble host, bring to you yet another episode of the Ask a Christian podcast, wherein we contend for the faith, reason through the Scriptures, and endure the madness of the internet so that you don’t have to.
First, we begin by offering hearty congratulations to the 51st state of Canadia (not a typo, but absolutely intentional) for their glorious victory in the Hockey Championship—a win that shall be spoken of in the annals of history, or at least until next season. Though I confess, I know not the intricacies of hockey, I do know that our northern brethren rejoice, and so we rejoice with them (Romans 12:15).
Then we delve into the Gospel of Thomas, wherein a woman joins us to advocate its merits, suggesting it is worthy reading alongside Scripture. But lo! Not only does she hold to this apocryphal text, but she also clings to the persistent yet wholly unfounded claim that Jesus was married. And so, with patience and sound doctrine, we dismantle this notion, for truth is not determined by preference but by revelation.
Next, we engage in an age-old theological wrestling match: the Trinity. What do Christians mean by "entity"? How do we rightly define the triune nature of God without falling into error? We traverse the Scriptures to illuminate this mystery, for indeed, some seek to confound what has already been revealed in the Word of God.
Then, a question arises: Should we be called Christians or Nazarenes? A bold claim is made that we should abandon the term "Christian" in favor of something else. But is this wise, and is it biblical? We walk through the New Testament to discern what the early church was called and why this debate, like many before it, need not cause unnecessary division.
From there, we engage in the great battle of tradition. What traditions are good? What traditions are merely man-made customs masquerading as divine mandates? And what traditions should Christians abandon altogether? The discussion rages on as we seek to rightly divide the Word of Truth.
And lo, what should appear on the horizon but yet another clash with Torah observers—those who would bind believers to the Old Covenant Law rather than embrace the freedom found in Christ! As Paul so often contended with the Judaizers, so too do we reason through the Scriptures, demonstrating that our salvation is not found in works of the Law but in the finished work of Christ.
And behold, we tackle yet another historical inaccuracy—the false claim that Easter comes from Ishtar. We uncover the historical truth that Ishtar was actually celebrated in the summer or fall, not during the time of Easter. And thus, we exhort Christians to stop giving ground on this argument and to stand firm in historical and biblical accuracy rather than capitulating to the ever-repeating lies of the internet.
And just when you think this episode couldn't get any better—a chick fight breaks out. Yes, indeed, Courtney and Shantel engage in a spirited exchange that is, to be frank, absolutely hilarious. We neither condone nor discourage, but we certainly listen with great amusement.
But lo, the battle does not end there, for yet again, we are faced with Black Hebrew Israelite nonsense. They come, they speak, they attempt to twist Scripture, and yet they fall, for truth always prevails. We expose the fallacies, the historical inaccuracies, and the unbiblical nature of their claims, pointing always back to the authority of God's Word.
So join us, dear listeners, for this episode and all the thought-provoking, entertaining, and sometimes baffling conversations contained therein. Like, share, subscribe, and spread this podcast to all who seek truth, all who love debate, and all who simply enjoy watching the internet do what the internet does best—spiral into absolute madness.
